As I stand upon this gentle slope, a tuft of verdant grass clung loosely in my hand, I am struck by the connection that exists between myself and the earth beneath my feet. It is a humbling sensation, to be so closely linked to the very essence of life, to be so intertwined with the beating heart of the natural world.

The blades of grass in my hand represent so much more than simply a piece of the earth’s greenery. For they are a symbol of the infinite cycle of birth, growth, and renewal. And as I gaze upon the rolling hills stretching out before me, I am deeply filled with a sense of wonder and gratitude for the beauty and majesty of the world around me.

Am I truly aware of my own place within the grand scheme of things?

When I watched my son walking on the slope, picking up a handful of the greenery, when I saw him smell on it and smile from the tickle in his nose, I started to wonder: when was the last time I really did connect to the grounds I walk on? When have I bowed down, approached my head to the earth, and thanked it for being such a reliable foundation for my steps.

When was the last time I let the scent of the bare earth wash over me?
