Ahh. The tension in the knee caps is rising. The little brave pilot feels the vibrations, gently at first, and now more and more fervently, in each of the fourteen muscles in all six legs. It feels like the mounting excitement among the racehorses, the seconds before the starting gates open. Every leg is part of the team and they all want to give their best. And the heart begins to beat with anticipation.

The hundreds of facets in both compound eyes were just recently wiped clean with the front legs. Up to 300 images per second, covering almost 200° field of view. The brain is firing up the pre-launch sequence, scanning the surrounding for flight obstacles and dangerous adversaries. All clear. Good to go.

The feet firmly touch the ground and hold the leaf to let it go at the decisive moment, taut like a bowstring. A last wiggle of the wings to warm up the joints.

Wings: check. Flaps: check. Wind: check. Visibility: clear. Ready for take-off!

Bzzzzz….. BZZZZZZZZ ….. bzzzzzzzummmmm

And I was left behind, alone. Lying on my belly, after witnessing this fascinating start of a soul into a new adventure in a vast world. What remained was me, the grass blade and one big question:

Where to?
