Throughout history, we have witnessed the rise and fall of great civilizations, the deeds of leaders who left indelible marks upon the world, and the acts of ordinary individuals who altered the course of human history. All of them recognized the transitory nature of time, and embraced each moment as if it were their last.
To know one’s ancestry is to gain a sense of perspective, a deeper appreciation for the struggles and triumphs of those who came before us. We are part of a lineage stretching back through time, and we have the power to shape the future for those who come after.
When I grasp the impact of being aware that my lifetime is finite, a calm descends upon me, and I find serenity in the present moment. I begin to value the simple pleasures in life, to pursue my passions, and to strive to make a positive difference in the world.
The shadows of those who have gone before, lie at the bottom of time, the living colours long since faded. Some of these lived lives lie so far back that they are seen only as dust, and yet they form the fundamental layer of today.
